Academia Así es mi Perú was established in April 2022 by Director Sara Helfers and her co-director Lisset Caramantin- Williams with the vision of creating a Peruvian folkloric group of musicians and dancers of all ages in the Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex. The academy is dedicated to promoting the rich culture of Peru through traditional dance and music, while fostering a sense of community, identity, and cultural pride.

Our dance academy is open to anyone who wishes to learn and embrace Peruvian culture, welcoming participants ranging in age from 5 to 70 years old. Through inclusive programming, we provide opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds to connect with and experience the traditions of Peru.

Since its founding, the academy has performed at a variety of community and cultural events, including Somos Southlake, Carnaval de Barranquilla, Hispanic Heritage Month in Grapevine, the World Affairs Council, the Dallas Arboretum, American Airlines events, and programs hosted by the Consulate of Peru.

Academia Así es mi Perú is also committed to community impact and service. We have collaborated with organizations such as Salvando Corazones, a nonprofit group of surgeons raising funds for medical equipment for Peru, and have participated in benefit events to support individuals in need of medical care.

We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations directly support the academy’s mission, including the purchase of authentic costumes sourced from Peru and the development of future cultural programs and festivals.
